POUNDSTOCK GILDHOUSE AND CHURCH
PUMPKIN
FESTIVAL AND CRAFT FAYRE |

|

|
|
Saturday and Sunday the 27th and 28th of October saw the annual Pumpkin Festival and Craft Fayre at our delightful Poundstock Church and Gildhouse . Committee members
waited anxiously for the OK from the heritage builders to use the upper feasting hall
for the event.
|
|
|

|
Pulling out all stops the feasting hall became available on the Friday afternoon and the ladies of the church hurriedly turned it into a fine refreshment area with the hall looking
splendid in its fresh coats of limewash and with new lighting to show
everything off.
It was wonderful to be back in the beautiful old hall that has hosted innumerable feasts to
raise money for the church over the past 450 years and is set fair to do so for at least another hundred years.

|
The church itself was transformed for the weekend into a wonderful market place for about 20 different local craft workers in the area with everything from sensuous turned
wooden bowls to aromatic herbs and everything in between. Shoppers were able to get early Christmas presents of a wonderful quality and originality.
Outside in a marquee were the pumpkins!! Although we can’t claim any world champions the largest topped the scales at 56lbs, winning the Brooks Garden Centre Cup,
and if you can do better bring it along next year. |
|
|
The
Pamela Edelson Cup for best senior carved pumpkin was won by Tim
Dingle, and the Dingle Trophy for best junior carving was won by
Annabel Smeeth with Hannah Colwill.
The whole event was
well supported and thanks must go to David Attwell, Sally Buts,
Eva, Ewen, and Mair Lily for judging the competitions and to a
very kind lady in Widemouth Bay for organizing an amazing tombola
stall that helped bring the proceeds of the weekend to a record
£855.
