2009 Events
The Gildhouse was recently shortlisted for the Conservation award in the prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) South West Town and Country Design Awards and the committee were delighted when we were announced as the winner! The Chair of the judges said "The sense of community pride in this subtle and sensitive renovation of the medieval Gildhouse was palpable. The architects philosophy of 'just enough' shone through with imperceptible and crafted repair merging seamlessly with appropriate and measured new work to accommodate disabled access and facilities". The architect, Jonathan Rhind worked with the local authorities on this project to revitalise an historic site ensuring a sensitive bringing back to life enabling the medieval building to continue the tradition of its central role at the heart of the village into the 21st century.
2009 has been an exciting year in the new life of the Gildhouse, we have had visits from nine schools with over 350 children dressing up and  experiencing life in Tudor times, we have also held two family education days which were a great success. There have been five Wedding receptions and parties as well as Community events such as concerts, talks, courses and meetings. We have also had visits from associations and clubs and have been open on Wednesdays throughout the summer for refreshments and tours of the building.
