Entitled
‘Sickles & Scythes’, the display of old farm tools in the
Gildhouse over the weekend of August 2nd & 3rd
was a chance for many people to talk about times past, there were items
associated with harvest, ploughing, root crops, dairying and farm stock.
The scythes, hay forks, root hoes and topping tools gave a reminder of
times when most of the power used on the farm was man-power. Of course,
horses were also a very important part of farming life and the old stable
made an excellent place to display some items of horse equipment. There were also
photographs from the last century, and a delightful small corn dolly
display.
Appetising lunches and cream teas were available and much appreciated by the
visitors. Many admired the Gildhouse and remarked what a wonderful
setting it was for such an exhibition. The exhibition was part of the
Gift Aid weekend, organised to help raise funds for our lovely church.
The fundraising project at the moment is aimed at getting better heating
into the church.
